A few days ago, China Electric Power Construction contracted by Zimbabwe Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station extension project Unit 8 grid-connected power generation success.
The expansion project of Zimbabwe's Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station is the largest hydropower project for Chinese enterprises in Zimbabwe and the second largest energy project since Zimbabwe's independence. The project is located on the southern bank of Zambia and Zimbabwe, 375 kilometers from the capital Harare. On November 10, 2014, the project officially started construction. It mainly undertakes the expansion task on the basis of the original six units, with the expansion capacity of 2 150,000 kW hydroelectric generating units.
The completion of the hydropower station will increase the power generation capacity of the Kariba hydropower station by 40% and the annual power generation capacity of Zimbabwe by nearly 25%. This has greatly alleviated the basic electricity shortage, further enhanced the original power generation capacity, and provided impetus for the economic development of Zimbabwe.
